eClips Web

There are many organisations in the UK that monitor and aggregate newspaper website content by scraping/crawling the newspaper sites, building a local index of that content and then providing either website links or copies of articles to clients. The NLA is pleased to announce its investment of over £2m in the creation of eClips Web a reliable, publisher controlled database of website content, which takes feeds directly from publisher content management systems. eClips Web will enable media monitoring companies to offer an improved service to their clients with greater depth of information, permanence and faster delivery.

eClips Web Workflow

The workflow is as outlined in the diagram to the left and in summary the NLA:

  • Will take direct feeds from publishers which are rich in data. (e.g.headline,byline, subject, industry code etc)
  • The NLA will pass the benefits to media monitoring organisations in standard XML.
  • MMOs will then pass links and any additional information on to users.

In addition, the NLA will deliver:-

  • a search capability and simple secure API tools that will allow aggregators to access and interact with the database of web content.
  • an archived version of all web articles

Timetable

eClips Web is available for testing by media monitoring organisations now, with a full release scheduled for later this year.
